floor jack

QUESTION:

I have air in my floor jack and I can't seem to be able to bleed it. It is a 21/4 ton. One screw on the right and a hex air bleeder on the left.

ANSWER:

HELLO,
THOSE SCREWS ARE NOT TO BE REMOVED. OPEN THE VALVE AND PUMP THE HANDLE ABOUT 8 TIMES AND THEN CLOSE THE VALVE AND ATTEMPT TO RAISE THE SADDLE BY PUMPING.  IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO DO THIS OPERATION A FEW TIMES TO EVACUATE ALL THE AIR.  IN THE EVENT THIS DOES NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM, IT'S PROBABLY DUE TO FLUID BYPASSING THE O RINGS IN THE PUMP PISTON (REQUIRING THE REPLACEMENT PURCHASE OF A NEW UNIT).  SAFETY HERE IS THE BEST POLICY.

THANKS FOR ASKING,

CARL
