Lead warning label on box set of 8 pliers from Costco?

Question:

I recently purchased a boxed set of 8 pliers from my local Costco store. These will be used at a volunteer job I have that refurbishes baby items such as strollers, highchairs etc. Should I be concerned about the following statement that is on the package:
"Warning: This product contains lead, a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer, and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling."
There will be occasions where some children might come in contact with these tools.

Answer:

Hello Richard,
There is no problem connected with usage of any item which has plastic handles. We've been using these ever since colored plastic handle covers entered the scene. Thanks to Attorneys, they've been able to scare all sorts of people into believing the harmful effects of lead, which really started back when it was realized that lead in paint did serious damage to children who ingested it off walls in their homes. It is safe to say that all items with plastic handles may have trace amounts of lead contained in those plastics. Every home will have numerous items with some form of colored plastic around, so there's nothing to worry about unless you start eating it. Wow, what a concept, suicide by plastic. Always something new. Stay cool.

Regards,

Carl
