The socket adapter keeps falling off the driver on my 41-pc reversible ratchet driver set?

Question:

I have an Alltrade 41-pc reversible ratchet driver set (model #507-W-41, Q.C. #260364) that I inherited from my Dad -- to use the sockets, you have to use the adapter, and I can't figure out how to make the adapter stay in the driver (it simply falls out when inserted) -- I don't have an instruction booklet with it -- can you help?

Answer:

Hello Melanie,
O.K., I know what your problem is. The barrel into which any bit fits normally has a black band around it and that band is designed to hold a detent ball, (which) in turn, retains any bit placed into the barrel. The detent ball looks like a small ball bearing and, I'd bet your missing either the detent ball or, both the black band as well as, the ball. If this is the case, please call our customer service number 1-800-423-3598 and give them your model number or, tell them what’s missing. They'll be happy to provide you with a replacement ball, band, or both.

Thanks for asking,

Carl
