What are the gold colored tipped Power Built TM Drill Bits used for?

Question:

My husband has recently passed away and I am sorting through all his tools with my two sons. We have come across a set of Power Built TM Drill Bits - Model # 481435. They are gold colored tipped and are round bits. Can you tell me what they are used with and for what purpose?

Answer:

Hello Mary,
Sorry for your loss. The set you have is a high speed drill bit set, and the gold color indicates that they have been coated with Titanium, which allows bits to operate at a much higher temperature than regular high speed steel bits. This gives them longer life in a work environment. They are used for drilling (of course) in wood, metal and other substrates but cannot be used on ceramics, stone or the like.

Hope this helps with your query and many thanks for asking,

Carl
