I Recently Purchased a HOT ROD 5 gallon 3 hp Compressor...

Hi Carl, I recently purchased a HOT ROD 5 gallon 3 hp compressor. I have 2 questions: (1) it states not to store compressor in below freezing temperatures. I wanted to store it in the garage and use it during the winter to fill tires etc., would this be a problem? (2) It states to turn regulator completely counter clockwise when not in use.  Should the regulator come to a fixed stop or do I stop when outlet pressure reaches 0 psi? I would appreciate your advice.
Thx Jack

Hello Jack,
In order to store at any temperature, change the oil to a synthetic oil that will flow at any temperature. Regular oil will not flow and will cause the compressor to stall and possibly burn up the motor. The reason for turning the regulator is to relieve the spring tension of the knob and it will show restriction when fully opened.

Thanks for asking,
