How do you replace the ring on a 2 1.4 ton floor jack?

Question:

I have a 2 1.4 ton floor jack, model number 689-J--214-H. The jack came with a spare o-ring and backup ring. It did not come with instruction on how to replace the ring. Do you have a procedure or can you identify the part reference number on the part list diagram?

Answer:

Hello Michael,
Here's the blowup of the plunger where the seals go. You'll need to remove the yoke to remove and re-seal the plunger area. I use a paper clip straightened out and cut the end at an angle and then bend that end at a 90 degree, about 1/4" long, to allow you to remove the old seals. Unless the unit is leaking at the plunger, there is no reason to replace those seals. What you’re replacing is the #21, 22 and 23.

Thanks for asking,

Carl
