floor jack isn't disengaging properly

Question:
Once the jack is raised and under load the universal gear/sproket at the base of the handle is not engaging and making it impossible to lower the jack. I've had to turn the gear on the jack with pliers to lower. How do I repair this?

Answer:
Hello Marc,

You will need to replace the one or both of the gears, as it appears that one or two of the teeth have probably broken off.  Please call customer service at 1-800-423-3598 and give them your model number which you did not indicate in your email to me.  They can tell you if the gears are still available and price.  These were used on older models and, since I am at a satellite location I do not have access to the information.

Thanks for asking,

Carl
